About the role
Role overview
You will embed with the application team to raise the quality bar while the product undergoes significant change. You will catch issues before users do, partner with engineers to prevent bugs earlier, and expand the team’s automated testing practice—especially a Playwright-based E2E suite.
Responsibilities
- Execute thoughtful testing: exploratory testing, edge-case hunting, and bug triage for a web application.
- Partner with engineers: clarify acceptance criteria with developers and reduce bugs that reach QA.
- Build and grow E2E automation: develop and expand a Playwright end-to-end test suite targeting the Svelte frontend.
- Define testing standards: document what to test, coverage expectations, how bugs are reported, and how regressions are prevented.
- Integrate with CI/CD: coordinate with the DevSecOps engineer so functional tests run cleanly in the existing pipeline.
- Manage test data responsibly: use synthetic or de-identified datasets when testing against healthcare data sources.
- Participate in agile ceremonies: act as a full member of the application team (sprint planning, refinement, retros).
Required qualifications
- 3–6 years in QA or test engineering (ideally on web application teams).
- Strong testing instincts and the ability to find issues through curiosity about failure modes.
- Hands-on E2E test automation for web apps (Playwright preferred; Cypress/Selenium acceptable).
- Ability to read code in at least one modern programming language.
- Understanding of HTTP and REST APIs, and how to test them (e.g., Postman, curl, or equivalent).
- Strong written communication for bug reports, test plans, and documentation.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where targets evolve during development.
Nice-to-have
- Experience testing apps built with modern JS frameworks (Svelte/React/Vue or similar), with direct Svelte experience a plus.
- Familiarity with Go (able to read and write basic tests).
- Exposure to healthcare/regulatory environments (e.g., HIPAA) and working with PHI in test environments.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools in a QA/testing context (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot).
- Experience contributing to or shaping testing strategy (not only executing tests).
