Responsibilities

  • Deploy seasonally (8–16 weeks) during the Austral Summer (typically Oct–Mar) to support on-ice construction and maintenance work
  • Perform field inspections and surveillance against approved drawings, specifications, ITPs, and applicable codes/standards
  • Review construction plans/prints, technical specifications, shop drawings, RFIs, and design changes for readiness and conformance
  • Support development, review, and execution of ITPs, inspection checklists, and hold/witness points
  • Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow-up quality checks, documenting deficiencies and inspection results with objective evidence
  • Participate in risk-informed audits, site walkdowns, interviews, and assessments to evaluate QC effectiveness
  • Identify and document nonconformances, punch-list items, lessons learned, and corrective actions
  • Coordinate with project teams, subcontractor QA, and on-ice personnel to resolve quality issues
  • Support close-out activities, including verification of inspections/tests and material/quality record readiness

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, quality management, or related field (relevant experience may substitute)
  • 3+ years of experience in construction QA/QC, project engineering, field engineering, construction management, inspection, or related work
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schedules, specifications, and technical documentation
  • Knowledge of construction QA/QC practices: inspection/testing procedures, nonconformance management, and quality record control
  • Strong documentation skills (clear, accurate objective evidence)
  • Effective written and verbal communication with multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience working in remote, industrial, or active construction environments while meeting safety and environmental standards
  • Ability to complete required medical/dental/background checks and training for Antarctic deployment
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residence as required by contract
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust security clearance (may take up to 4 months)

Deployment/Travel Notes

  • Deployment is seasonal with pre-deployment activities possible (training, planning, coordination), including temporary duty travel.
