About the role
Role Overview
Leidos is seeking a Seasonal Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer for the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) Quality team. The role provides field-focused QA support for construction, sustainment, and project execution activities in Antarctica, with seasonal deployment to Antarctic stations.
Responsibilities
- Deploy seasonally (8–16 weeks) during the Austral Summer (typically Oct–Mar) to support on-ice construction and maintenance work
- Perform field inspections and surveillance against approved drawings, specifications, ITPs, and applicable codes/standards
- Review construction plans/prints, technical specifications, shop drawings, RFIs, and design changes for readiness and conformance
- Support development, review, and execution of ITPs, inspection checklists, and hold/witness points
- Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow-up quality checks, documenting deficiencies and inspection results with objective evidence
- Participate in risk-informed audits, site walkdowns, interviews, and assessments to evaluate QC effectiveness
- Identify and document nonconformances, punch-list items, lessons learned, and corrective actions
- Coordinate with project teams, subcontractor QA, and on-ice personnel to resolve quality issues
- Support close-out activities, including verification of inspections/tests and material/quality record readiness
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, quality management, or related field (relevant experience may substitute)
- 3+ years of experience in construction QA/QC, project engineering, field engineering, construction management, inspection, or related work
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schedules, specifications, and technical documentation
- Knowledge of construction QA/QC practices: inspection/testing procedures, nonconformance management, and quality record control
- Strong documentation skills (clear, accurate objective evidence)
- Effective written and verbal communication with multidisciplinary teams
- Experience working in remote, industrial, or active construction environments while meeting safety and environmental standards
- Ability to complete required medical/dental/background checks and training for Antarctic deployment
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residence as required by contract
- Ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust security clearance (may take up to 4 months)

- Deployment is seasonal with pre-deployment activities possible (training, planning, coordination), including temporary duty travel.
