About the role
Role Overview
Lead QA Automation Engineer (hands-on leadership) to own and scale QA across web and mobile platforms, including media websites and the Drops application.
Responsibilities
- Own, maintain, and enhance automated testing pipelines for web and mobile applications, ensuring reliability and efficiency.
- Develop, update, and maintain automated tests using Playwright (or similar), expanding coverage for critical user flows.
- Optimize test execution time, reduce flaky tests, and improve overall test reliability.
- Maintain and improve CI test workflows using GitHub Actions to support continuous integration and deployment.
- Define standards for writing, reviewing, and organizing automated tests to ensure consistency and quality.
- Partner with Engineering to ensure applications are testable and automation-friendly.
- Investigate failed test runs, identify root causes, and coordinate fixes with engineering teams.
- Improve QA processes (defect triage, regression planning, release readiness).
- Create practical QA guidelines for feature validation and regression testing.
Requirements
- 5+ years professional QA experience, including hands-on testing of web applications.
- 3+ years developing and maintaining automated test suites for production applications.
- 2+ years with modern browser automation frameworks (Playwright preferred; Cypress or Selenium).
- 1+ year leading QA initiatives, mentoring QA testers, or managing QA processes in a product/engineering team.
- Proficiency writing and maintaining automated tests in JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, preferably with GitHub Actions.
- Familiarity with test case management tools such as Testiny, TestRail, Zephyr, or similar.
- Experience with cross-browser/cross-device testing tools such as Sauce Labs or BrowserStack.
- Strong understanding of regression, smoke, exploratory testing, and defect lifecycle management.
- Ability to troubleshoot failed tests and determine whether issues are test, environment, or application related.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Selenium/Cypress (in addition to Playwright).
- Deeper familiarity with additional QA guideline and release-readiness practices for web and mobile.
