Role overview

Join Canonical as a Python Engineer in a general track hiring role across teams that build with Python. This is a remote-friendly position contributing to Ubuntu-related web services, system utilities, tools, and frameworks—with collaboration across a globally distributed organization and open-source communities.

What you’ll do

Write high-quality, well-designed, well-tested Python software
Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team
Provide technical leadership in your team and open-source communities
Debug issues and deliver high-quality fixes
Contribute to technical documentation
Work from home with global travel ~2 times/year for company events

What we’re looking for

Strong academic record (or a compelling alternative path)
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM (or equivalent narrative)
Proven ability to go above-and-beyond and deliver against commitments
Ability to write thoroughly designed, modern, maintainable Python
Detail-oriented engineering with a focus on performance
Professional English communication skills
Linux experience (Debian/Ubuntu preferred)
Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
Ability and willingness to travel up to two weeks per year

Nice to have

Container technologies: LXD, Docker, Kubernetes
Build systems/toolchains (including cross-compilation)
Additional languages: Golang, Rust, C/C++
Strong quality and test engineering practices
Web or Flutter frontend experience
REST and gRPC API experience
