Python Developer - Remote

Role overview

Join a customer team as a Python Backend Developer (AI Expert) in a remote part-time contract role. You will design, implement, and continuously improve robust backend APIs while collaborating with a team exploring cutting-edge AI models and developer tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize scalable REST and GraphQL endpoints.
• Ensure strong data validation, error handling, and API security in backend services.
• Plan and execute database migrations, performance tuning, and schema changes.
• Test AI-powered models in Cursor and provide actionable feedback via incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots.
• Participate in 4-day intensive testing bursts to evaluate how AI models affect real coding workflows.
• Collaborate with the research team in a dedicated Slack channel; propose improvements based on findings.
• Submit post-burst surveys covering model performance and developer experience.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience with strong Python expertise.
• Proficiency building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Advanced knowledge of backend data validation, error handling, and API security.
• Hands-on experience with database migrations, performance tuning, and schema design.
• Extensive use of AI coding tools; Cursor familiarity is highly desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with clear incident/bug reporting.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, confidential, remote environment.

• Experience designing or evaluating experimental tooling and developer workflows.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for AI advancements in software development.
