Python Developer - Remote

Role Overview

Join a client’s team as a Python Backend Developer (AI Expert) in a part-time contract role. This is a remote position focused on building robust backend APIs and collaborating with cutting-edge AI research to test and improve developer tooling.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize backend APIs, including REST and GraphQL endpoints
• Implement strong data validation, error handling, and API security
• Plan and execute database migrations, performance tuning, and schema changes
• Test AI-powered models in Cursor and provide actionable feedback (incident reports, bug traces, screenshots)
• Participate in 4-day intensive testing bursts to evaluate how AI models affect real coding workflows
• Collaborate with the research team in a dedicated Slack channel
• Submit post-burst surveys with insights on model performance and developer experience

Requirements

• 3+ years professional backend development experience with strong Python expertise
• Proficiency building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs
• Advanced understanding of backend validation, error handling, and API security
• Hands-on experience with database migrations, performance tuning, and schema design
• Extensive use of AI coding tools; Cursor familiarity is highly desirable
• Excellent written and verbal communication, especially for clear incident/bug reporting
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, confidential, collaborative remote environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Visible open-source contributions (e.g., GitHub stars/contributions)
• Experience designing/evaluating experimental tooling and developer workflows
• Enthusiasm for AI advancements in software development
