Python Developer - Remote

Role overview

You will join a customer team as a Backend Developer (Python Developer - AI Expert) in a remote, part-time contract role. You’ll design, implement, and improve robust backend APIs, while collaborating with cutting-edge AI research and helping evaluate AI-powered coding workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend APIs, including REST and GraphQL endpoints.
• Improve data validation, error handling, and API security practices.
• Plan and execute database migrations, performance tuning, and schema changes.
• Test new AI-powered models using Cursor, and provide actionable feedback (incident reports, bug traces, screenshots).
• Participate in periodic 4-day intensive testing bursts to assess how AI models impact real coding workflows.
• Collaborate with the research team (via a dedicated Slack channel) to discuss findings and propose improvements.
• Submit post-burst surveys covering model performance and developer experience.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience, with strong Python expertise.
• Proficiency building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Advanced understanding of backend data validation, error handling, and API security.
• Hands-on experience with database migrations, performance tuning, and schema design.
• Extensive experience using AI tools for coding; Cursor familiarity is highly desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication and clear incident/bug reporting.
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, confidential, remote environments.

• Visible open-source contributions (e.g., GitHub activity/stars).
• Experience designing/evaluating experimental tooling and developer workflows.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for AI advancements in software development.
