Python Developer - Remote

Role Overview

Join a customer team as a Python Backend Developer (AI Expert) in a remote, part-time contract role. You will design and improve robust backend APIs and collaborate with an engineering group and an AI research team to test and shape next-generation developer tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize REST and GraphQL API endpoints for scalable services
• Implement strong data validation, error handling, and API security practices
• Plan and execute database migrations, performance tuning, and schema changes
• Test AI-powered models in Cursor, and report findings via incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots
• Participate in 4-day intensive testing bursts to evaluate how AI models affect real coding workflows
• Collaborate with the research team (Slack) to discuss results and propose improvements
• Submit post-burst surveys covering model performance and developer experience

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional experience as a backend developer, with strong Python expertise
• Proven ability building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs
• Advanced backend understanding of data validation, error handling, and API security
• Hands-on experience with database migrations, performance tuning, and schema design
• Extensive use of AI coding tools; Cursor familiarity is highly desirable
• Excellent written and verbal communication, especially incident/bug reporting
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, confidential, collaborative remote environments

• Visible open-source contributions (e.g., GitHub contributions/stars)
• Experience designing or evaluating experimental tooling and developer workflows
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for AI advancements in software development
