About the role
Role overview
Join a remote team as a Python Backend Developer (AI Expert). You’ll build and continuously improve robust backend APIs while collaborating with an engineering group and supporting/assessing AI-powered developer tools and models.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize REST and GraphQL endpoints for scalable APIs
- Implement data validation, strong error handling, and API security best practices
- Plan and execute database migrations, performance tuning, and schema changes
- Test and evaluate new AI-powered models in Cursor, and report results (incident reports, bug traces, screenshots)
- Participate in 4-day intensive testing bursts to assess how AI models impact real coding workflows
- Collaborate with the research team via a dedicated Slack channel and propose improvements
- Complete detailed post-burst surveys covering model performance and developer experience
Requirements
- 3+ years professional experience as a backend developer with strong Python expertise
- Experience building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs
- Advanced understanding of backend data validation, error handling, and API security
- Hands-on experience with database migrations, performance tuning, and schema design
- Extensive experience using AI coding tools; Cursor familiarity is highly desirable
- Strong written and verbal communication, with clear incident/bug reporting
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced remote environments
Nice-to-haves
- Visible open-source contributions (e.g., GitHub stars/contributions)
- Experience designing/evaluating experimental tooling and developer workflows
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for AI advancements in software development
