Role overview

Mercor is hiring a Python Developer (Software Engineer) for a contract role focused on building production-grade Python systems for AI research workflows. The position is remote with an initial 1-month duration and a 20 hours/week commitment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain complex, production-grade Python systems.
• Design modular, testable codebases using modern Python tooling and best practices with FastAPI and Pydantic.
• Improve performance via profiling and memory optimization.
• Collaborate asynchronously with AI research teams to support model training and evaluation.
• Work independently to meet deadlines and enhance AI model performance.

Requirements

• Must-have: experience working at top US tech firms.
• Proven track record building complex Python systems.
• Deep understanding of Python fundamentals.
• Experience with modular, testable codebases using modern Python practices.

Interview process

• 90-minute technical interview focused on Python.
• Feedback provided within two weeks.

Compensation

• $100/hour contractor rate.
