Great Value Hiring is looking for a backend Python Developer to build and improve scalable API services and to collaborate closely with a research team while testing AI-powered coding models.

Role Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize REST and GraphQL endpoints for scalable APIs
• Implement data validation, error handling, and API security best practices in backend services
• Plan and execute database migrations, performance optimizations, and schema changes
• Test new AI-powered models in Cursor, and provide actionable feedback via:
  • incident reports
  • bug traces
  • screenshots
• Participate in 4-day intensive testing bursts focused on how AI models affect real coding workflows
• Collaborate with the research team in a dedicated Slack channel to discuss findings and propose improvements
• Submit post-burst surveys with insights on model performance and developer experience

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience
• Strong expertise in Python
• Proficiency building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs
• Advanced knowledge of backend data validation, error handling, and API security
• Hands-on experience with database migrations, performance tuning, and schema design
• Extensive experience using AI coding tools; Cursor familiarity is highly desirable
• Excellent written and verbal communication, especially for clear incident/bug reporting
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, confidential, remote collaboration environments

• Visible open-source contributions (e.g., GitHub stars or contributions)
• Experience designing/evaluating experimental tooling and developer workflows
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for AI advancements in software development
