About the role
Role Overview
Join Galaxy as a Protocol / Backend Engineer (V.P.) (full remote). You’ll design, build, and maintain secure, scalable blockchain products and infrastructure, collaborating with cross-functional teams and researching emerging web3/blockchain trends.
Key Missions
- Design, build, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure blockchain products, systems, and infrastructure.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to improve infrastructure, monitoring, system automation, and incident response.
- Research and scope new opportunities in the web3/blockchain ecosystem, staying current with emerging trends.
Responsibilities
- Debug complex distributed blockchain systems.
- Implement monitoring/observability tools.
- Participate in on-call rotations.
- Build backend services in addition to core infrastructure work.
- Troubleshoot end-to-end application flows spanning multiple systems (server, network, and application).
- Support/operate validator or RPC infrastructure.
- Contribute to incident response with measurable remediation.
Requirements
- 4+ years of software engineering experience.
- Expertise in cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with virtualization/compute technologies (e.g., VMWARE/KVM/Docker or similar).
- Working knowledge of Linux, performance optimization, and command-line tooling.
- Strong problem-solving and ability to find root causes to completion.
- Demonstrated experience in blockchain infrastructure or strong blockchain domain knowledge (e.g., proof-of-stake, web3, RPC).
- Prior application/backend engineering in modern languages (.NET, Go, Rust, C/C++, Java, etc.).
- Strong observability/debugging approach and research aptitude.
- Hands-on monitoring/observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog, LogDNA).
- Security knowledge (encryption, access control, network security such as firewalls/traffic filtering).
- Scripting ability in Python/Perl/bash for automation.
- Experience/knowledge of custody key management, HSMs, and MPC.
- Written/verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice-to-Haves / Additional Signals
- Experience or awareness with Chainlink systems/services.
- Ability to work with on-chain activity (reading/parsing).
- Kubernetes or similar orchestration; familiarity with container orchestration.
- Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.
