About the role

Role Overview

Kuali is hiring a Product Owner – Research to shape product direction for research administration in higher education. You will act as a bridge between customer needs and product execution, turning institutional workflows into actionable backlog items and measurable outcomes.

Responsibilities

Own and manage the product backlog for Kuali Research, ensuring clarity, prioritization, and alignment with strategic goals.
Translate customer and institutional input into user stories and acceptance criteria.
Collaborate daily with engineering and design to support timely, high-quality delivery.
Work with Product Managers to refine roadmap priorities and validate outcomes against customer needs.
Support release planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to drive continuous improvement.
Serve as the voice of the customer within the scrum team.
Monitor product performance and help drive data-driven decisions to improve usability and adoption.

Requirements

3+ years in product ownership, business analysis, or software delivery.
Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum and backlog management.
Excellent communication and collaboration across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to translate complex workflows into clear, actionable requirements.
Passion for improving research administration processes and higher-education outcomes.

Nice to Haves / Additional Notes

Comfortable working in systems built with Java and Node.js/React (stack knowledge is supportive; versatility is emphasized).
Experience across both greenfield and refactoring work, with strong problem-solving and empathy for users.
