Product Owner (MMIS Health IT)

Role overview

HHS Technology Group is seeking a Product Owner with expertise in MMIS (Medicaid Management Information System) Health IT. You will define, prioritize, and manage the product backlog for a specific MMIS system—acting as the voice of the customer and stakeholders to ensure delivery aligns with business needs and Medicaid regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Requirements gathering & analysis
- Conduct user research and gather requirements from stakeholders (Medicaid beneficiaries, providers, internal business teams)
- Translate business requirements into user stories and acceptance criteria
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure compliance with Medicaid regulations and industry standards
Product vision & strategy
- Develop and communicate product vision and roadmap aligned to organizational goals
- Prioritize features based on business value, user impact, and regulatory considerations
- Track industry trends and regulatory changes affecting the MMIS landscape
Backlog management
- Own and manage the product backlog; ensure items are well-defined, prioritized, and ready
- Refine and update backlog based on stakeholder feedback and changing business needs
- Collaborate with the team to estimate effort and complexity
Agile collaboration
- Facilitate sprint planning; participate in daily stand-ups and sprint retrospectives
- Engage with developers to clarify requirements and remove roadblocks
UX & testing support
- Work with UX designers to create intuitive, user-friendly interfaces
- Collaborate with QA to define testing strategies and ensure quality
Stakeholder management & risk
- Communicate progress to business leaders, technical teams, and regulatory bodies
- Identify and manage risks impacting delivery and compliance
