Role Overview

Lead the evolution of underwriting and rating platforms for Personal Lines. This Product Owner/Product Manager role combines product management with business analysis and insurance domain expertise, partnering with underwriting and technology teams to deliver scalable, high-impact solutions.

Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Define and maintain the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for underwriting and rating platforms
  • Partner with underwriting leadership and business stakeholders to align product direction to organizational goals
  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting workflows and rating accuracy, increasing business value and ROI
  • Balance competing priorities to maximize product impact

Requirements & Business Analysis

  • Elicit, analyze, and document business and system requirements for new initiatives/enhancements
  • Translate needs into user stories, process flows, and functional requirements
  • Define acceptance criteria to align expectations with delivered solutions
  • Establish requirements management and documentation best practices

Backlog & Agile Delivery

  • Own and prioritize the product backlog using business value, data insights, and technical considerations
  • Collaborate with Agile teams to ensure stories are well-defined and ready for development
  • Lead/support Agile ceremonies (e.g., PI planning, sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives)
  • Track progress, manage risks, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality features

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as primary liaison between business stakeholders, underwriting teams, and delivery teams
  • Facilitate workshops to gather input, drive consensus, and resolve issues
  • Partner with architects and engineers for scalable and enterprise-aligned solutions
  • Communicate priorities, updates, and risks to stakeholders and leadership

Quality & Validation

  • Ensure solutions meet business needs via validation and acceptance testing
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Refine requirements and solutions based on feedback and outcomes

Continuous Improvement

  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to improve process efficiency
  • Identify and implement improvements to underwriting processes, systems, and UX
  • Promote Agile and continuous improvement practices

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years experience in Product Management, Business Analysis, or related roles (preferably insurance technology)
  • Strong understanding of insurance underwriting, rating methodologies, and policy lifecycle
  • Experience delivering in Agile frameworks: Scrum, SAFe, Kanban
  • Proficiency with Azure DevOps and Jira, plus Confluence (and tools like Visio)
  • Ability to translate business needs into product requirements and deliver end-to-end
  • Familiarity with integrations, APIs, and data flows
  • Demonstrated process improvement experience (Lean/Six Sigma)
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and facilitation skills

Preferred

  • P&C commercial lines experience (Property, Casualty, Specialty)
  • Exposure to rating platforms (e.g., Guidewire, Ratabase, or similar)
  • Familiarity with underwriting workbenches or submission systems

Certifications (Preferred/Noted)

  • Agile: CSM, PMI-ACP, or SAFe
  • Business Analysis: CBAP
  • Lean Six Sigma: Green Belt or higher
