Product Owner

Role Overview

Product Owner at Benchmark Analytics. You will own a defined product surface within the company’s SaaS platform—ranging from shared infrastructure to new product builds, specialized law enforcement workflows, and data/analytics experiences.

You will work as a trio with a lead engineer and a junior engineer, delivering using an AI-augmented software development lifecycle. This is an ownership-and-delivery accountability seat: you define scope, priority, and delivery outcomes, and write engineering-ready specifications that your engineering pair can implement directly.

Responsibilities

• Own your product surface end to end: decide what gets built, when it ships, and how it serves users/consuming teams; accountable for scope, priority, and quality.
• Produce engineering-ready specifications for features, including:
  • Complete user flows
  • Visual designs
  • Data requirements
  • Edge cases
  • Acceptance criteria
  • Use AI tools as a core part of the workflow (engineering builds directly from specs).
• Make and defend prioritization decisions: evaluate requests from customer success, sales, and leadership, communicate transparently, and determine what enters (or doesn’t enter) the roadmap.
• Maintain deep customer fluency through direct engagement, user research, and ongoing relationship-building with:
  • Law enforcement practitioners
  • Agency administrators
  • Internal platform consumers
  • Data science teams
• Conduct or commission user research (as needed): interviews, usability testing, workflow observation, and product analytics review; ground decisions in evidence and coordinate with subject matter experts.
• Collaborate tightly with your engineering pair as a trio: bring clarity on what/why while engineering brings clarity on how/feasibility.
• Own post-launch adoption and feedback:
  • Evangelize capabilities, train internal teams
  • Track adoption and gather feedback
  • Maintain documentation and iterate based on real-world usage
• Support enterprise sales conversations with substantive product and domain expertise (beyond feature lists).
• Leverage AI tools across research, specification, design, analysis, prototyping, and documentation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in product management, technical product management, engineering, design, or another role where you owned both the "what" and the "how" of a product/technical surface.
