Product Owner

Role Overview

The Atlassian Product Owner defines and executes the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Atlassian collaboration and work management products—primarily Jira and Confluence—used by teams across the enterprise. The role ensures the platform is healthy, scalable, and aligned with enterprise architecture, security, and governance while maximizing business value through globally consistent, out-of-the-box solutions.

Responsibilities

• Own product vision and roadmap for Atlassian products (Jira/Confluence), aligning with enterprise technology objectives and business strategy.
• Act as the primary product owner/customer proxy, translating business needs into epics, features, and user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
• Build and prioritize the product backlog and roadmap, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform health and strategic outcomes.
• Lead backlog refinement, release planning, and prioritization with delivery teams, architects, and stakeholders.
• Partner with and manage third-party vendors for Atlassian platform engineering, DevOps, and support (accountable for delivery outcomes, stability, performance, cost effectiveness, and SLAs).
• Own vendor governance: performance reviews, demand planning, capacity management, issue escalation, and continuous improvement.
• Manage Atlassian licensing and subscriptions: user tier management, cost optimization, renewal planning, compliance, and alignment with usage/demand.
• Lead product procurement for Atlassian and related tools with sourcing, finance, and legal: evaluate options, justify spend, negotiate contracts, and onboard capabilities.
• Ensure solutions are global by design, minimizing customization/localization and prioritizing OOTB capabilities.
• Monitor and manage platform health: stability, performance, security, scalability, technical debt, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
• Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, risk, and governance standards, including data protection and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with Scrum Masters, engineers, architects, and other Product Owners to support agile ceremonies and manage cross-team dependencies.
• Participate in system demos/reviews, validate against Definition of Done, and formally accept delivered work.
• Engage global stakeholders to gather feedback, manage expectations, drive adoption, and improve value delivered.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or equivalent experience.
• Strong understanding of product lifecycle and Agile product ownership.
• Hands-on experience as a Product Owner in an Agile environment.
• Experience owning/managing a SaaS-based enterprise platform (roadmap planning, lifecycle management, upgrades, and platform health).
• Demonstrated experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence) or similar work management platforms.
• Experience enabling AI-driven solutioning (evaluate use cases, integrate AI capabilities, ensure measurable business value).
• Working knowledge of system integrations, APIs, and data flows between enterprise platforms.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices supporting stability, automation, and continuous delivery.
• Ability to define product strategy, prioritize, and make tradeoff decisions across competing demands.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with enterprise governance and vendor management for platform engineering/support services.
• Experience with Atlassian platform upgrades, scaling, and technical debt management across global users.
