Product Designer (Unsecured Lending)

Role Overview

Join Upstart as a Product Designer (Unsecured Lending). You’ll support feature-level design, create production-ready design assets, and collaborate closely with Product Managers and Engineers to deliver end-to-end user experiences across the borrower journey.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with PMs and engineers to align on scope, constraints, and implementation details, ensuring design intent is preserved through handoff.
• Translate product requirements into:
  • Wireframes
  • Interactive prototypes
  • High-fidelity visual designs (ready for production)
• Iterate on designs using user feedback, data insights, and stakeholder input.
• Contribute to seamless experiences across complex user journeys, including multi-step flows with branching outcomes and edge cases.
• Build buy-in and deliver smooth design handoffs where resolution matches the intended design.

Requirements

• 3+ years of product design experience, owning small-to-medium projects end-to-end.
• End-to-end capability across:
  • Problem/goal definition
  • Rapid user testing and/or user research
  • Wireframing and iterative design instincts
  • Interaction and visual design (including strong typography)
  • A repeatable, user-centered design process
• Fluency working with design systems.
• Proficiency in Figma and strong fluency with GenAI tools.
• Ability to give, receive, and incorporate feedback at each stage.
• Experience designing complex multi-step flows with branching outcomes and many edge cases (e.g., applications, forms, comparison tools).
• Experience with fintech/lending/insurance or other heavily regulated consumer products.
• Experience working in a triad model (PM/Engineering/Design).

Nice-to-haves

• Experience contributing to or advancing design systems further (beyond working fluently within them).
