Product Designer

Role Overview

Transect is hiring a Product Designer to own design end-to-end across the platform. This is a sole-designer role—your the only dedicated designer—partnering closely with product and engineering from early concepts through shipped UI. You’ll join during a pivotal period as the company expands platform coverage and explores how to integrate AI into the product experience.

What You’ll Do

• Own design end-to-end: UX, UI, information architecture, and interaction design for a complex, data-dense B2B SaaS platform
• Customer discovery: talk with customers to understand pain points, mental models, and jobs-to-be-done
• Balance speed and craft using the right level of fidelity (wireframes → polished mocks)
• Manage and evolve the design system for consistent visual and interaction patterns across the platform
• Build AI curiosity on the product team by sharing learnings, experimenting, and identifying where AI can accelerate design/product workflows
• Support occasional creative projects for Marketing or other teams (e.g., producing product highlight videos)

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum 4 years of product design experience as a strong generalist across research/IA and visual/UI craft
• Startup/small-team experience, ideally as a sole/founding designer; strong prioritization and the ability to move without a design team
• Experience designing complex, data-dense B2B software, including:
  • dashboards
  • multi-step workflows
  • interactive, map-based tools
  • multiple application states
• Exceptional communication: articulate design rationale clearly to product, engineering, and leadership
• Collaborative by default: build trust and give/receive design feedback effectively
• Strong Figma skills, including component libraries, variables, design tokens, prototyping, and maintaining design-system patterns
• Ability to understand technical constraints and partner with engineers to balance user needs, effort, maintainability, and quality
• Genuine curiosity about AI in product design (hands-on shipped AI features or a strong point of view on tradeoffs)
• Comfortable working in a fully remote, fast-paced environment

Nice to Have

• Interest/experience in climate tech, energy, infrastructure, or geospatial/mapping
• Experience designing for both novice and power users in the same product
• Familiarity with AI-assisted design/prototyping tools used responsibly
• Basic familiarity with front-end concepts (HTML/CSS, responsive layouts, component-based frameworks) and web app constraints
