Product Designer

Role Overview

OpenEd is hiring its first Product Designer to own the end-to-end design process for a consumer-facing platform—from strategic discovery to polished execution. You’ll partner with product, engineering, and Learning teams to translate complex educational concepts into delightful, user-centered experiences for diverse learners and families.

Immediate Impact

Months 1–3

• Deeply understand learners, families, and educators through user research and product immersion
• Ship initial UI improvements to core student and parent dashboards
• Establish early foundations for a design system

Months 4–6

• Lead a redesign of a major product area (e.g., student onboarding, curriculum navigation, or family communication tools) from concept to launch
• Build repeatable design processes
• Begin creating a design system component library

Months 7–12

• Drive strategic design initiatives that improve family satisfaction and staff efficiency
• Mentor cross-functional partners on design thinking and advocate for user-centered decisions

Success Metrics

• Parent Confidence: parents find the product joyful and recommend it
• Staff Confidence: internal tools are easy and enable ramp-up with minimal training
• Engineering Velocity: teams can ship high-quality experiences consistently without design bottlenecks

Requirements

• 5+ years product design experience
• At least 3 years designing consumer-facing digital products at significant scale (100K+ users)
• Strong UI craft; portfolio of production-ready work across web and mobile
• Ability to balance aesthetic vision with user and stakeholder feedback (avoid design-by-committee)
• Experience designing cohesive experiences for multiple user types
• Passion for high-quality internal tools for staff
• Systems thinker with experience building design systems
