About the role
Role Overview
As a Product Designer at Nex, you will own the design and user experience (UX) for Playground, helping create an engaging, family-friendly interface. You’ll partner with product and engineering to improve key experiences such as first-time onboarding and core browsing, with a strong focus on usability, delight, and retention.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design process for the OS, covering user needs, usability, and delightful interactions for kids and adults.
- Design and prototype the UI/UX for a custom Android-based operating system (e.g., navigation, settings, play modes).
- Create web-based features that help users manage their Playground account off-device.
- Collaborate with product leaders, engineers, and marketers to align on objectives and deliver design solutions.
- Produce wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for new features.
- Work with engineering to iterate based on feedback and testing.
- Build team-wide customer empathy by participating in and leading research and testing.
- Conduct user research and usability testing to validate decisions and identify pain points.
- Help build and maintain a consistent design language and design system across OS and web.
- Perform regular design audits and usability testing to ensure quality and alignment with user needs.
- Advocate for the design system and reusable components across the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelors or Masters in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field.
- 8+ years of product design / UI-UX design experience (consumer-facing digital products preferred).
- Experience working with software development processes and practices.
- Strong portfolio showing interaction design, visual design, and UX.
- Excellent visual and interaction design craft.
- Proficiency with Figma (and/or Sketch or similar) for design and prototyping.
- Strong leadership and communication; can clearly articulate decisions and advocate for user-centered design.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to tackle ambiguous problems and translate them into clear goals.
- Passion for creating experiences for families, children, and friends.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing operating systems or 10-foot UI experiences.
- Experience conducting user research and usability testing.
- Familiarity with designing entertainment experiences with curated/editorial content.
- Knowledge of design systems and creating reusable components.
