About the role
Role Overview
Product Designer (first dedicated product designer) for the Modern Classrooms Project (MCP). This is a hands-on, foundational design role where you will take MCP’s early-stage software from rough to refined—owning how the product looks, feels, and works for teachers and students.
Responsibilities
- Refine end-to-end user experience
- Map journeys for teachers, students, and administrators
- Define information architecture
- Design intuitive paths that scale as products grow
- Identify and redesign moments where users get confused, rushed, or stuck
- Wireframe, prototype, and validate
- Create quick wireframes to iterate cheaply before engineering
- Build and validate high-fidelity, clickable prototypes for high-stakes flows
- Build and own the design system
- Create and maintain a documented component library aligned with MCP brand and product needs
- Enable engineers to compose using consistent components instead of reinventing UI patterns
- Bring design efforts in-house
- Help establish design best practices for a mature design operation
- Do lots of hands-on work across artifacts (e.g., journey maps, pixel-level UI, and on-screen copy)
- Collaborate closely
- Report to the Chief Innovation Officer
- Work with Product Managers and the engineering team
Requirements
- Hands-on ability to take a flow from wireframe → high-fidelity → clickable prototype
- Experience showing designs to real users and observing their struggles/successes
- Ability to ship pixels (not just opinions)
- Strong systems thinking: information architecture and design systems
- Experience building scalable components using modern design system practices (e.g., variants/auto-layout concepts mentioned)
Nice-to-Haves
- Not explicitly stated in the provided excerpt.
