About the role

Role: Product Designer, Internal Tools

Design and improve internal products used by Stripe employees, with a focus on complex workflows, dense information, and scalable knowledge sharing.

What you’ll do

  • Own end-to-end design for a portfolio of internal tools, from discovery and problem framing through interaction design, prototyping, and implementation support.
  • Partner with engineers and PMs to define requirements and translate them into clear, usable design solutions.
  • Conduct lightweight research and usability sessions with internal users to validate decisions and uncover unmet needs.
  • Help create a consistent design language across internal tools by working with the Stripe design system and the Sail Design team.
  • Make thoughtful design trade-offs: balance deep craft with pragmatic shipping.
  • Raise the bar for internal product design by advocating for users who may be underserved vs. customer-facing experiences.

Design focus areas

  • Developer Productivity: ensure every engineer has the tools to be productive.
  • Collaboration: knowledge discovery and communication at scale.

Who you are (minimum requirements)

  • 5+ years of product design experience with a portfolio showing strong UX thinking, visual craft, and comfort navigating ambiguity.
  • Experience designing complex/data-heavy workflows (internal tools, developer tools, ops platforms, etc.).
  • Comfortable covering the full design process (discovery, problem brief, design/prototype, and shipping).
  • Strong systems thinking: identify patterns, reusable components, and structural solutions.
  • Collaborative communicator: share work early, give/receive feedback, and align stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Figma and comfortable working within/alongside a design system.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience designing internal/enterprise tooling.
  • Contributions to a design system or close work with a design systems team.
  • Comfort with information architecture challenges (navigation, search, content modeling).
  • Interest/background in developer tooling, ops platforms, or workflow automation.

Work model (hybrid)

  • The role is either office-based or remote, for people located 35+ miles (56+ km) from a Stripe office.
  • Office-assigned employees spend at least 50% of time monthly in the local office or with users.
