About the role
Role Overview
You will own the end-to-end design of Chess.com’s Courses product experience. You’ll craft engaging, user-friendly interfaces for web and mobile, ensuring they fit the company’s design system while improving learning and engagement.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end design process for the Courses experience (concept → deployment)
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Copywriting, and leadership to define problems and develop solutions
- Create high-quality web and mobile designs aligned with Chess.com’s design patterns and systems
- Design interactive learning experiences that help players learn new concepts via courses and habit-forming spaced repetition
- Present design proposals, explain decision rationale, and incorporate user insights/heuristics
- Build interactive prototypes for rapid testing and iteration using Cursor, Claude Code, and Figma Make
- Ensure design-to-code consistency by collaborating closely with developers
- Identify opportunities to improve the product by proposing features that increase engagement and social interaction
- Provide constructive feedback to peers and support a collaborative, growth-oriented team
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience as a Product Designer on consumer-facing products or games
- Strong portfolio focused on interface and UX
- Solid UI fundamentals: typography, color theory, layout, visual hierarchy, alignment, contrast
- Experience designing responsive, interactive interfaces for mobile and web
- Familiarity with large, established design systems
- Understanding of frontend development processes and how designs translate to code
- Experience using AI tools such as Cursor and Claude Code, plus prototyping in Figma Make
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for a remote, globally distributed team
- Ability to clearly document and justify design decisions
- Proactive, ownership-driven approach
