Product Designer

Role: Product Designer

Butter is looking for a product designer with exceptional craft and strong product instincts to help shape the future of the product. This role works directly with the founders, defines design culture, and owns product work from concept through execution.

What you’ll do

• Design end-to-end product experiences, from first idea to shipped product
• Create simple, elegant solutions to complex interaction problems
• Define interaction patterns, motion, visual systems, and product quality standards
• Design and iterate on key user experiences, including:
  • Group spaces
  • Mini-apps
  • Creation tools/flows
  • Onboarding, discovery
  • Emerging AI systems
• Partner closely with founders, engineering, and product to shape strategy
• Talk directly with users and translate insights into product direction
• Raise the quality bar across the entire product

Must-haves

• 3+ years designing consumer products
• Strong visual design, interaction design, and product thinking
• Portfolio showing exceptional craft and attention to detail
• Ability to simplify complex workflows into intuitive experiences
• Strong taste and deep understanding of internet culture, communication, and modern social products
• Comfortable working through ambiguity and bringing clarity
• Fast execution without sacrificing quality
• Excellent communication and storytelling
• Excited by startup environments and founder-level ownership

Bonus points

• Experience in a consumer startup or working on 0→1 products
• Motion, prototyping, or creative coding skills
• Experience designing:
  • Social products
  • Creator tools
  • Gaming products
  • AI-powered experiences
• Based in San Francisco or interested in hybrid work (remote open for the right person)
