Role overview

Freelance Creative Designer (Merchandise & Product Concepts)

BDA is building a network of trusted freelance creative designers to support rush projects, overflow work, and specialized creative needs. This is project-based and not a consistently scheduled or full-time role.

What you’ll help create

• Custom merchandise concepts
• Limited-time fan collectibles
• Product packaging
• Promotional activations
• Product presentations
• Client-facing visual storytelling

Responsibilities

• Stay current on trends in collectibles, retail merchandise, fan culture, and consumer product moments
• Create brand-right merchandise concepts for different audiences and brand voices
• Design across multiple product categories (e.g., apparel, hard goods, collectibles, packaging, displays, promotional merchandise)
• Produce organized, client-ready visuals and presentations
• Prepare production-ready files when needed (formats, color profiles, dielines, resolution, and production guidelines)
• Maintain organized design files, naming conventions, folder structure, and version control

Possible project work

• Trend Research & Inspiration Boards (compiling trend boards)
• Creative Concept Development (fresh concepts aligned to brand)
• Product & Merchandise Design (custom products, promotional items, apparel, hard goods, collectibles, packaging)
• Product Decks & Visual Storytelling (organized, client-ready concept decks)
• Production File Preparation (vendor-ready files and specifications)

Requirements

• Strong ability to conceptualize and design merchandise that goes beyond logo placement—focused on brand, audience, and the moment
• Ability to move quickly, juggle multiple creative priorities, and adapt as needs change
• Ability to design for different audiences and customer experiences
• Ability to create visuals/presentations that clearly communicate and excite clients

Nice to have

• Experience with 3D files
