About the role
Role Overview
Product & Privacy Counsel at Synthesia. Reporting to the Head of Product & Privacy Legal, you will partner with Product, Engineering, R&D, Business Operations, and Go-To-Market teams to help bring AI products to market responsibly—balancing legal risk with business objectives as the company scales.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and R&D across the product lifecycle to identify and address legal risks in AI, IP, privacy, security, open source, and marketing.
- Advise Go-To-Market and Business Operations on product positioning, licensing models, and regulatory issues.
- Monitor and interpret evolving laws related to AI, privacy, IP, and competition to support proactive compliance.
- Draft and maintain scalable processes, playbooks, and guidance to ensure consistent legal input across teams.
- Support creation and management of privacy, security, and AI governance frameworks and audits.
- Provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice aligned with Synthesia’s risk appetite.
Requirements
- Law degree and qualified to practice in-house in a relevant jurisdiction.
- 7+ years post-qualification experience, including 5+ years advising on SaaS product legal issues.
- Prior exposure to generative AI preferred.
- Strong understanding of AI/ML technologies and related legal issues (e.g., IP, privacy, algorithmic accountability).
- Strong understanding of GDPR and major privacy frameworks.
- Comfortable working with technical teams and translating legal risk into actionable guidance.
- Excellent written communication skills for cross-functional audiences.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

- Experience with biometric data processing or automated decision-making.
