About the role
Product Compliance Analyst (State Filing Compliance)
Safeguard Assurant’s regulatory posture by overseeing state insurance filing activities and translating regulatory requirements into compliant product solutions.
Responsibilities
- Regulatory oversight: Review state insurance requirements and assess impacts on existing products.
- Policy forms: Draft, review, and revise policy forms to meet state-specific filing and regulatory requirements.
- Cross-functional partnership: Work with Business, Legal, Actuarial, Underwriting, Operations, and Claims to implement compliant product solutions.
- Filing management: Manage filings to support timely approvals while minimizing regulatory and operational risk.
- State regulator communication: Serve as a primary point of contact with State Insurance Departments; address questions, objections, and conditions to facilitate approvals.
- Documentation & audit readiness: Ensure decisions, approvals, exemptions, and records are well documented, defensible, and auditable.
- Regulatory governance & risk management:
- Oversee preparation and submission of state compliance filings (consistency, quality, regulatory alignment).
- Evaluate filing obligations and determine when exemptions apply; provide documented assessments for management approval.
- Support governance activities such as company registration renewals and annual rate filings.
- Support regulatory risk mitigation efforts (market conduct exams, litigation discovery, audits, and inquiries).
- Meet state-driven deadlines to avoid compliance gaps and enforcement exposure.
- Operational execution:
- Prepare and submit filings via SERFF and other required channels with completeness and accuracy.
- Coordinate filing fees and required certifications to prevent submission delays.
- Ensure internal systems (e.g., OSX and state filing systems) reflect status, approvals, and distributions.
- Communicate approvals and requirements to relevant business and operational teams.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree
- 2 years of experience in the Property and Casualty insurance industry
Nice-to-haves
- Paralegal background or Insurance designation
- SERFF knowledge and/or experience submitting state filings
Skills
- Strong written drafting/editing and grammar skills; accuracy and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work with ambiguity and frequently changing priorities
- Time management and strong data entry skills
- Working knowledge of insurance terminology; ability to research industry regulation
- Willingness to learn new tools/processes and complete training courses
- Ability to balance compliance requirements with business strategy
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with internal teams, state regulators, and external representatives
