Process Risk and Compliance Operations Manager

Role Overview

The Process Risk and Compliance Operations Manager will own the strategic design and continuous evolution of risk frameworks for Airbnb’s Community Support organization. The role translates investigative findings, AI/ML model outputs, operational signals, and emerging threats into risk decisions and actions that protect Airbnb.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and continuously evolve the Community Support (CS) Risk Appetite Framework (guardrails, escalation triggers, pre-approved response actions).
• Develop and maintain a living CS Risk Registry, challenging prioritization and validating that risk scores reflect reality.
• Identify risks automated systems may miss (e.g., emergent social engineering tactics, regulatory shifts, insider collusion patterns) and enforce remediation accountability.
• Create and stress-test risk assessment standards, including KRIs (Key Risk Indicators), risk typologies, and emerging threat hypotheses.
• Partner closely with Insider Threat to contextualize investigative outcomes within the broader risk ecosystem.
• Co-own escalation frameworks and challenge the effectiveness of detection models, strengthening the feedback loop between investigations, governance, and AI-driven detection.
• Act as program manager for systemic root cause resolution, ensuring structural vulnerabilities identified via investigations and assessments are tracked, assigned, resourced, and driven to completion.
• Serve as a risk steward for AI systems impacting Community Support, leading governance discussions and ensuring AI in high-stakes environments is governed with appropriate rigor.
• Partner with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to negotiate and calibrate risk tolerance in a rapidly changing environment.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Experience designing and evolving risk frameworks, risk registries, and risk governance processes.
• Ability to interpret investigative and operational outputs with skepticism and translate them into decisions.
• Program management discipline to drive cross-functional remediation to completion.
• Experience with or strong understanding of insider threat and detection/response escalation mechanisms.
• Ability to lead governance discussions about AI usage in high-stakes operational settings (even if not a technical engineering role).
