Principal Software Engineer

Role overview

Join Elastic as a Principal Software Engineer in Platform Engineering (the Traffic team). You will design, build, and improve the multi-cloud platform at scale for Elastic Cloud Hosted and Serverless, with a strong focus on resilience, security, and operational excellence.

Key missions

• Develop and deliver solutions through coding, technical design, and implementation.
• Improve resilience by prioritizing security, bug fixes, and features.
• Lead technical initiatives to automate network engineering and ensure reliability of the global Elastic infrastructure.
• Collaborate in an inclusive, operational-perfection culture, helping uplift and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Participate in coding and ongoing platform improvements.
• Innovate and craft technical designs and solutions.
• Drive automation efforts that support network engineering reliability across the platform.

Requirements

• 10+ years in software engineering with product success delivering cloud network solutions.
• Experience collaborating as an authority in identifying and delivering solutions.
• Strong background with public cloud and managed Kubernetes services.

Nice to have / preferred

• Go (Golang) experience.
• Designed and built a SaaS product in public cloud using Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform or Crossplane).
• Built Kubernetes infrastructure at scale across multiple cloud providers, including automation.
• Experience with containerized services (e.g., Docker).
• System administration expertise with Linux on distributed systems at scale.
• Experience diagnosing/designing solutions with the Elastic Stack.
• Proven success leading and improving cross-team engineering initiatives.
• Experience working in distributed/remote teams and supporting self-organization.

Collaboration and leadership

• Coach and mentor team members.
• Contribute to cross-team reliability efforts grounded in customer-first problem solving (“progress not perfection”).
