About the role
Role Overview
You will lead the “0-to-1” build of Avery Dennison’s retail technology platform for Digital Media, enabling grocers to modernize stores using Electronic Shelf Labels (ESLs), in-store printing, and digital video screen campaigns. The role is hybrid in scope, starting as a high-level Individual Contributor architecting and building solutions, then transitioning into a Technical Lead to scale the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the 0-to-1 phase: Architect and develop software solutions for digital screens and ESL integrations as an initial solo contributor
- Hardware integration: Collaborate with third-party hardware vendors to integrate devices into a centralized platform
- Pilot support: Support in-store pilots, including troubleshooting production issues and deploying hotfixes during critical rollouts
- Strategic technical evaluation: Assess whether to partner with third-party vendors or build in-house solutions, ensuring business goals are technically feasible
- Team scaling: As the product matures, help hire/onboard engineers and establish:
- code quality standards
- CI/CD pipelines
- a strong development culture
