Principal Software Engineer (Data)

Role Overview

Principal Software Engineer on the Datastore team at Beacon Biosignals. You will shape the architecture and design of solutions for the Beacon Platform, emphasizing scalable data models, data integrity, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with engineering and product leaders to guide architecture and solutions for the Beacon Datastore.
• Influence and help set architectural standards across Platform teams.
• Implement features that reflect best practices in data modeling and datastore engineering.
• Coach team members to improve their skills and hold a high bar for data integrity, sound design, and maintainability.
• Draft RFCs for complex feature discovery and technical design, gathering input and building alignment on key decisions.

Requirements

• Strong SQL proficiency, with production experience using PostgreSQL.
• Proficiency in data streaming and event processing (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or cloud equivalents like Amazon Kinesis).
• Strong written and verbal communication, especially in asynchronous remote settings.
• Experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform and/or Helm).
• 10+ years of backend development experience, including significant experience in data engineering/data platforms and infrastructure for data-centric applications.
• Collaborative mindset across disciplines.

Nice to Have

• Interest in or experience with LLM-assisted/agentic coding tools in production with appropriate guardrails.
• Comfort learning the Datastore’s specific stack (SQL/TypeScript/Julia) quickly (not required at application time).
