Principal Software Engineer (Core Sharing & Collaboration)

Role Overview

Join Dropbox as a Principal Software Engineer (Core Sharing & Collaboration). You will solve technical problems critical to the company’s long-term customer experience, help introduce and drive responsible AI adoption, and influence roadmaps across organizations.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term technical direction for customer-facing experiences within Core Sharing & Collaboration.
• Identify where AI improves customer value and lead its responsible introduction.
• Drive responsible AI adoption across product capabilities and engineering workflows.
• Influence and align roadmaps across organizations by addressing structural bottlenecks.

Requirements

• 15+ years designing, building, and evolving large-scale software systems with impact across multiple teams/organizations.
• Proven Principal-level ownership of company-critical technical problems and long-term technical direction.
• Broad/deep expertise across multiple areas, including some combination of:
  • Frontend, mobile, search, databases, storage systems
  • Concurrency and distributed systems
• Strong experience building consumer-facing products at scale, with emphasis on UX, performance, reliability, and operational excellence.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to senior engineering, product, and executive audiences.
• Practical production experience with modern ML/AI, including LLM-based APIs and agentic frameworks, with sound judgment on quality, cost, and risk.
• Experience defining and scaling company-wide platforms or architectural standards adopted by multiple orgs.
• Track record leading durable introduction of AI/ML into core products or engineering workflows.
• Experience working in highly distributed, virtual-first engineering organizations at global scale.

Nice-to-Haves

• Advanced degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent industry experience demonstrating deep technical mastery).
