Principal/ Senior Full Stack Software Development Engineer

Role overview

Join Workday’s Agent Factory, a small cross-functional AI team building intelligent agents used by millions of people daily. As a Principal/Senior Full Stack Software Development Engineer, you’ll design and ship end-to-end full stack features that power AI agents integrated into HR and financial workflows, working closely with ML engineers and product managers.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement agentic architectures, integrating LLMs securely with backend systems to execute complex tasks.
• Build and deliver full stack functionality that powers embedded AI agents in HR and finance workstreams.
• Collaborate in an iterative, agile, team-based environment; help drive strong engineering practices and continuous learning.
• Work across architecture, development, and operational concerns (e.g., best practices for reliability and observability).

Requirements

• Strong collaboration and communication with technical and non-technical partners.
• Experience with Relational Databases (preferred: PostgreSQL; also listed: 7+ years).
• Hands-on experience building AI agents using modern AI tooling such as LangChain/LangGraph and LLM vendor APIs.
• Proven success in fast-paced agile and cross-functional environments.
• Web development framework experience with Python preferred: Flask, Django, or FastAPI (also noted: 5+ years).
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch.
• Experience with containerization technologies: Docker and Kubernetes.
• Translate ambiguous, complex problems into clear solutions.
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices: DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and observability.
• Understanding of distributed systems tradeoffs and architectures.

Nice to have

• Experience building and operating SaaS products in cloud environments (AWS preferred).
• Additional languages: Java (backend) and TypeScript (frontend/fullstack).
