Principal Product Engineer

Role Overview

Yahoo is hiring a Principal Product Engineer (Principal Software Engineer) within its Commerce organization. You will be a technical heavyweight responsible for the most complex problems, building frontend-heavy systems for Yahoo’s global shopping research experience.

Responsibilities

• Design & implement complex, scalable, high-performing, resilient frontend solutions across Yahoo commerce verticals.
• Integrate AI-driven product insights into user-facing flows to enable seamless, personalized shopping research.
• Use AI-augmented development workflows to prototype and ship major features quickly, while ensuring AI-generated code is thoroughly reviewed, validated, and optimized for quality, reliability, and performance.
• Partner with designers to translate creative vision into elegant, functional code while solving frontend constraints.
• Tackle difficult bugs and performance bottlenecks, delivering user-friendly engineering solutions.
• Provide technical guidance to the squad, sharing expertise in modern frameworks and experimenting with emerging AI tools.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to influence technical and product decisions, owning end-to-end user experience and design integrity.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development with a track record of shipping high-impact code.
• Expert command of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript and modern frameworks: React, Next.js, Node.js.
• Deep understanding of browser rendering, web performance, and application architecture.
• Strong computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, clean software design).
• Demonstrated expertise applying LLM technologies and AI-assisted development tools to accelerate velocity without sacrificing quality.
• Strong TDD/testing experience (e.g., Jest, Playwright), and ability to leverage AI to improve test coverage.

Nice-to-Haves

• Prior experience building high-traffic e-commerce / shopping products (preferred).
