Principal Product Designer (Toast IQ Core, AI Product Team)

Role overview

Principal Product Designer for Toast IQ Core (AI Product Team). You’ll lead design strategy and execution for Toast’s AI assistant experience across web, mobile, and hardware, driving end-to-end UX/UI for core features within Toast’s AI ecosystem.

Key missions & responsibilities

• Lead design strategy and execution for Toast IQ Core, with focus on interaction design, design systems, and componentry
• Drive the end-to-end design process for core UX/UI features across web and native mobile
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Product, Engineering, GTM, Data Science, and other stakeholders) to define requirements and align on goals
• Prototype and run experimentation for evolving AI capabilities (e.g., memory/personalization, agentic workflows and actions)
• Mentor junior designers, promote best practices, and foster a culture of innovation and AI adoption

Requirements

• Proven ability to lead high-impact design initiatives at a principal level
• Strong user-centered design skills, including usability and accessibility
• Demonstrated ability (and desire) to conduct/coordinate user research, usability testing, and data analysis to inform design
• Strong collaboration and communication across product, engineering, GTM, and data teams
• Comfortable with technical fluency: APIs/data flows/personalization algorithms; experience working with LLMs, experimentation and A/B testing, personalization engines, and/or automation frameworks
• Proficiency with AI tooling and design tools, including:
  • AI tools (e.g., Claude, Codex)
  • Design/collaboration tools (e.g., Figma, Miro)
• Passion for growth and AI-driven experiences
• Enthusiasm for the restaurant industry and its unique challenges

• Deep understanding of emerging AI use cases and tooling
• Experience designing experiences for personalization, agentic workflows, and AI-driven automation frameworks
