Principal Product Designer (Player-Coach)

Join Ethos as a Principal Product Designer to lead design strategy across multiple business units, set the vision for user experience, and guide other designers.

Role overview

• Player-coach: own design projects while directing and mentoring other designers.
• Influence cross-functional output through feedback, design standards, and scalable systems.
• Work across multiple products and experiences, helping improve the end-to-end product development process.

Key missions

• Lead design strategy across multiple business units; set the overall UX vision.
• Direct and guide designers, and manage/align with executive stakeholders across engineering, product, marketing, and more.
• Improve product development process with cross-functional partners to ensure high-quality output.

Responsibilities / expectations

• Lead end-to-end product design work: discovery, problem definition, ideation, validation, through engineering implementation and measurement.
• Improve product flows and support 0→1 launches.
• Detect and resolve process and misalignment issues quickly.

Requirements

• 10+ years of Product Design experience.
• 2+ years at a venture-funded private startup.
• Experience in high-velocity, high-ambiguity, experiment-driven environments.
• Ideally strong Growth Product/Design experience.
• Experience with high-consideration consumer flows where storytelling and craft affect product performance.
• Demonstrated impact raising the bar for design practices and organizational output.
• Strong portfolio showing: interaction details, storytelling, visual polish, and content design.
• Majority of experience in-house on direct-to-consumer products.
• 2+ years influencing others via direct management or indirect leadership.
• Located in the Eastern Time Zone.

Nice to have

• Ability to clearly articulate the reasoning behind design decisions; intentional, rigorous thinking.
