Principal Mobile Engineer - AI-Augmented Development

Role Overview

Principal Mobile Engineer (AI-Augmented Development) responsible for owning the TaxAct mobile experience across iOS and Android. This is a hands-on, high-impact individual contributor role covering architecture, delivery, and long-term evolution of the mobile platform, while serving as the primary technical owner for mobile strategy and execution.

Responsibilities

Mobile Platform Ownership

• Own the architecture, design, delivery, and evolution of the TaxAct mobile app across iOS and Android
• Lead key mobile capabilities including:
  • Authentication
  • Biometrics
  • Secure storage
  • Notifications
  • Deep linking
  • Device integrations
  • Performance
  • App store distribution/operations
• Define the right balance between native mobile and web-based experiences
• Drive platform quality, reliability, security, and maintainability
• Evaluate emerging technologies and modernize the mobile platform

Engineering Leadership (Technical Lead)

• Act as the technical lead for mobile initiatives across engineering, product, design, security, and platform teams
• Work independently to identify opportunities, define solutions, and drive execution
• Build prototypes, evaluate technologies, and solve complex technical problems
• Advise stakeholders on:
  • Mobile architecture and platform capabilities
  • User experience
  • Release strategy
  • Operational excellence
• Improve mobile engineering practices, tooling, standards, and documentation

AI-Augmented Engineering

• Use AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows to accelerate:
  • design, implementation, testing, debugging, documentation, and research
• Maintain accountability for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability
• Evaluate AI-powered engineering tools and help establish adoption standards
• Review and validate AI-generated work to ensure production-quality outcomes

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including building/shipping/operating production mobile apps
• Proven ownership of complex mobile applications or platform capabilities across iOS and Android
• Experience driving initiatives from concept through production with minimal direction
• Experience supporting the full mobile lifecycle (releases, observability, crash analysis, performance optimization, platform upgrades)
• Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools
• Experience modernizing applications while maintaining production stability

Preferred / Nice-to-have (from provided text)

• Significant production experience with Flutter and Dart
• Strong understanding of iOS/Android platform capabilities (auth, biometrics, secure storage, notifications, deep linking, permissions, device APIs)
• Experience integrating mobile apps with web technologies (WebViews, APIs, backend services, identity providers, third-party platforms)
