About the role

Role overview

Leidos is seeking a Principal Kubernetes Engineer to serve as the senior technical lead for one of four Kubernetes platform environments. You will design, build, and continuously evolve a secure, scalable, and highly available Kubernetes platform (PaaS) that enables rapid software delivery across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate enterprise Kubernetes platforms for secure hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Architect resilient, scalable, highly available platform services for secure software delivery across mission environments.
  • Create reusable platform capabilities to simplify application deployment, operations, and lifecycle management.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, and continuous delivery to improve consistency and reliability.
  • Engineer secure Kubernetes services (identity management, policy enforcement, workload isolation, secrets management, platform hardening).
  • Optimize performance, scalability, networking, storage, resource utilization, and overall operational health.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across Kubernetes, Linux, networking, storage, and distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with cloud engineers, cybersecurity professionals, software developers, and product managers to deliver integrated platform solutions.
  • Improve observability with metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, and proactive monitoring.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to security, developer experience, and operations.
  • Create and maintain engineering standards, technical documentation, and architectural guidance.
  • Provide technical leadership via architecture reviews, design discussions, mentoring, and best practices.

Qualifications (Must-haves)

  • Master’s degree with 15+ years relevant experience, or Doctorate with 13+ years (additional experience may substitute for degree).
  • 8+ years progressively responsible experience designing, building, and operating production Kubernetes platforms.
  • Strong expertise in Azure Cloud Engineering and cloud infrastructure.
  • Proven expertise securing and operating enterprise Kubernetes for highly available production workloads.
  • Experience building cloud-native infrastructure and platforms across hybrid cloud environments.

Travel

  • Requires 25% travel.
