Principal Frontend Web Engineer, Yahoo Mail

Role Overview

Principal Software Web Engineer for Yahoo Mail (Web). You will lead the next generation of communication products on the web, set the technical direction for the team, and act as both architect and code quality validator in an AI-first engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Feature leadership & delivery: Define, design, develop, and ship major web features end-to-end (requirements → production monitoring).
• AI-first workflow orchestration: Use approved AI-assisted tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate delivery while preserving architecture, code quality, and security.
• Lifecycle optimization: Introduce AI-driven efficiencies to reduce boilerplate and repetitive refactors via automated, AI-validated workflows.
• Technical oversight & judgment: Review AI-generated code for architectural correctness, performance, accessibility, and security compliance.
• High-scale impact: Own web application areas used by millions and solve complex engineering and UX problems.
• Quality & collaboration: Conduct thorough code reviews and work closely with UX designers and product managers.
• Operational excellence: Write reliable, testable code; deploy, monitor, and operate globally distributed production systems.
• Mentorship & innovation: Mentor engineers, establish guardrails for AI-augmented coding, and evaluate emerging tooling.

Requirements

• 8+ years professional software engineering experience (or equivalent).
• Strong fundamentals in Data Structures, Algorithms, and Software Design.
• Deep knowledge of responsive design and modern web frameworks (e.g., React or Angular), plus Node.js.
• Proficiency with HTML5, CSS3, TypeScript, and OOP JavaScript.
• Proven software development principles including design patterns, CI/CD, and deployment architecture.
