About the role

Role Overview

Principal Frontend Engineer (Full Stack) at Vumedi, a mission-driven medical education platform. You’ll own end-to-end product experiences—from React UI design through backend services—while helping define what AI-native medical education looks like.

What You’ll Do

Design and build polished, high-performance product experiences using React and TypeScript/JavaScript
Build backend APIs and services using Python and Django
Partner with Product and Design to turn complex workflows into intuitive UX
Develop AI-powered features using LLMs, including:
- intelligent search, recommendations, summarization
- conversational experiences
- workflow automation
Work across the stack, owning features from concept/architecture through deployment and iteration
Drive frontend architecture, reusable component systems, and engineering best practices
Collaborate with Data/AI engineers to integrate ML models into production applications
Improve performance, reliability, accessibility, and overall user experience
Mentor engineers via technical leadership and design reviews while still coding daily

Who You Are (Requirements)

8+ years of professional software engineering experience building modern web apps
Proven experience as Senior/Staff/Principal engineer leading complex product development
Strong frontend expertise: React, TypeScript, modern JavaScript
Solid backend experience: Python, Django, and RESTful APIs
Ability to integrate LLMs/AI capabilities into production products
Strong foundation in API design, databases, caching, authentication, and cloud app development
Experience building scalable applications on AWS (or similar)
Strong product instincts and collaboration with Product, Design, and Engineering
Builder mindset: prototype quickly, ship often, iterate on user feedback

Design systems and component libraries
Performance optimization and frontend architecture
Search/recommendation/personalization systems
