About the role

Role Overview

Principal Frontend Engineer (Full Stack) at Vumedi, a hands-on role owning features end-to-end—from designing React interfaces to building the backend services that power them. You’ll work with Product, Design, AI, and Engineering leadership to ship product improvements used by thousands of physicians and help define what AI-native medical education looks like.

Responsibilities

Design and build polished, high-performance product experiences using React and modern frontend technologies.
Build backend APIs and services powering the frontend using Python and Django.
Partner with Product and Design to turn complex workflows into intuitive user experiences.
Develop AI-powered features using LLMs (e.g., intelligent search, recommendations, summarization, conversational experiences, workflow automation).
Own features across the full stack: concept, architecture, deployment, and iteration.
Drive frontend architecture, reusable component systems, and engineering best practices to improve team velocity.
Collaborate with Data/AI engineers to integrate ML models and intelligent services into production.
Improve performance, reliability, accessibility, and overall user experience.
Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers through design reviews and collaborative problem solving; continue writing code daily.

Requirements

8+ years of professional software engineering experience building modern web applications.
Experience as a Senior/Staff/Principal engineer leading complex product development.
Strong frontend expertise with React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
Solid backend experience with Python, Django, and RESTful APIs.
Experience integrating LLMs/AI capabilities into production products.
Full-stack comfort, including choosing appropriate technologies.
Strong understanding of API design, databases, caching, authentication, and cloud application development.
Experience building scalable applications on AWS (or similar cloud).
Strong product instincts and collaboration skills with Product and Design.
