Principal Frontend Engineer

Role overview

Join ClickUp as a Principal Frontend Engineer to drive the long-term technical vision for frontend engineering. This is a hands-on leadership role where you define frontend architecture strategy, solve complex problems, and mentor senior engineers.

Key missions

• Define and lead frontend architecture strategy across multiple product and platform investment areas.
• Design scalable, high-performance systems using Angular (2+) and React to enable rapid product development.
• Provide technical leadership for the highest-impact initiatives and unblock teams facing ambiguous or difficult problems.

Responsibilities

• Influence cross-functionally to keep ClickUp’s frontend systems fast, reliable, and adaptable.
• Lead architectural decisions for complex frontend systems used by large user bases.
• Define and guide testing strategies and testing infrastructure for large-scale feature changes.
• Mentor senior engineers and help grow high-performing engineering practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of frontend engineering experience, including large-scale web applications.
• Proven experience driving technical strategy across multiple teams or product areas.
• Demonstrated track record architecting complex frontend systems used by many users.
• Deep expertise in:
  • Performance optimization
  • Frontend scalability
  • Maintainable application design
  • Reusable component architecture
• Strong judgment balancing speed, quality, and long-term architecture.
• Expert experience with Angular 2+, React, TypeScript, RxJS, and NgRx (or similar state management).
• Outstanding communication and collaboration skills; ability to influence across functions and levels.

Nice to have

• Experience designing testing strategies for large-scale changes.
• Strong background building and mentoring high-performing engineering organizations.
