Role overview

Join Reddit as a Principal Engineer (iOS Performance) on the iOS Platform team. You will shape the future of iOS development by building a scalable foundation, improving modularity, performance, and quality, and mentoring iOS engineers across the company.

Key missions

Architect the iOS app/platform to scale for next 100M+ DAUs.
Propose and deliver improvements to modularity, performance, and quality.
Define, measure, and execute user-facing performance goals, including:
- Minimizing ANR (App Not Responding) rate
- Reducing app launch time
- Eliminating slow/dropped frames
Drive a company-wide performance culture, ensuring iOS engineers have the tools and skills to own performance across product surfaces.

Requirements

10+ years software development experience, with 5+ years designing/developing iOS applications.
Strategic mindset focused on long-term technical foundations and scalable software design.
Strong, experience-based understanding of building mobile apps at scale.
Experience with modern iOS frameworks, including SwiftUI and structured concurrency.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science (or related) or equivalent technical expertise.
Experience working cross-functionally with design, product, and data teams.
Ability to influence larger engineering orgs (200+ engineers) on iOS technical direction and best practices.

Nice to have

Evidence of measurable performance improvements and/or company-wide enablement (tools, standards, training) for mobile performance ownership.
