About the role

Role Overview

Join Palo Alto Networks as a Principal DevOps Engineer. You will lead the design, implementation, and scaling of core infrastructure and deployment pipelines, bridging software development and IT operations to ensure high availability, robust security, and seamless CI/CD.

Key Missions

  • Architect & scale containerized infrastructure: Design, deploy, and maintain highly available and resilient platforms using Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Own enterprise Git governance: Establish and enforce advanced Git workflows, branching strategies, and governance across GitLab or Bitbucket.
  • Build and improve enterprise CI/CD: Continuously improve CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, ensuring fast, reliable, and automated software delivery.
  • Automation & security by design: Champion automation and embed security practices into the development lifecycle.
  • Mentor engineers: Mentor junior engineers and lead problem-solving during critical incidents.

Responsibilities / Expectations

  • Lead senior-level technical execution for complex, inter-dependent platform issues.
  • Integrate security testing and static code analysis into automated workflows.
  • Improve developer productivity by integrating with existing toolchains.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or Systems Engineering, operating at a senior/principal level.
  • Deep production expertise in Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift for microservices.
  • Advanced Linux administration (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS).
  • Strong network troubleshooting including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, routing, and network security protocols.
  • Strong Python skills for scripting, automation, and API integrations.
  • Extensive hands-on Jenkins pipeline development and CI/CD automation.
  • Strong Git expertise (complex merges, interactive rebasing, history management) and enterprise repo administration in GitLab or Bitbucket.
  • Hands-on security/code analysis experience integrating SAST/security testing into pipelines, including Coverity (or similar).
  • Experience migrating repositories/CI pipelines between major platforms (e.g., Bitbucket→GitLab, Jenkins→GitLab CI).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or Ansible.
  • Experience operating in major public clouds: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Familiarity with modern observability/monitoring stacks: Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK.

Nice-to-Haves

  • AI-related skills including LLMs, AI agents, and Claude Code.
  • Involvement in open-source projects.
