About the role
Role Overview
Join Beacon Biosignals as a Principal Data Engineer to shape the architecture and design of scalable data models and event-driven pipelines at the core of the platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering and product leaders to guide architecture and solutions for the Beacon Datastore.
- Implement and uphold best practices for data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability.
- Coach engineers and collaborate across disciplines; help teams develop their skills.
- Draft RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design phases, incorporating feedback and building alignment.
- Influence and establish architectural standards across platform teams.
Requirements
- 10+ years of backend development experience, with significant experience in data engineering, data platforms, and infrastructure for data-centric applications.
- SQL proficiency with production experience using PostgreSQL.
- Experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments with Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and/or Helm.
- Strong experience with data streaming and event processing, using tools such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or cloud equivalents (e.g., Amazon Kinesis).
- Excellent written and verbal communication, especially in asynchronous/remote settings.
- Interest in or experience with LLM-assisted/agentic coding tools in production with appropriate guardrails.
- Strong collaboration mindset and ability to work cross-functionally.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with the Datastore’s specific stack (SQL/TypeScript/Julia)—not required, but learning quickly is expected.
