About the role
Role overview
Join Horizon3 as a Principal Cloud FinOps Analyst to improve visibility into cloud costs and margins and enable data-driven optimization of cloud spend.
Key missions
- Provide visibility into cloud costs and margins to support business and engineering decisions.
- Build and improve spend visibility dashboards and strengthen tagging so cloud spend data can be used in analytics/reporting tools.
- Develop cloud spend forecast models, define spend alarms using budgets and forecasts, and lead investigations of spend incidents.
- Track and analyze unit economics across the product portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Investigate cloud cost anomalies independently, identify cost drivers, and answer questions on spend.
- Translate and map between infrastructure details and business value.
- Present findings and recommendations clearly to both Engineering and Finance leaders.
- Drive improvements to tagging/labeling and cost visibility within development processes.
- Perform exploratory analysis on large billing datasets, documenting investigations and outcomes.
Requirements
- Experience as a FinOps cloud spend analyst in a B2B SaaS environment with multi-tenant architectures.
- Strong capability analyzing and exploring complex billing datasets using SQL.
- Significant experience analyzing cloud vendor billing data (preferably AWS) and building spend reporting/dashboarding.
- Strong spreadsheet modeling skills (forecasting in Excel/Google Sheets).
- Strong exploratory data analysis skills in SQL.
- Experience with BI tools such as AWS QuickSight, GCP Data Studio, Tableau, Looker, or similar.
- Ability to work with Engineering to improve tagging and cost attribution.
- Familiarity with AWS/GCP/Azure savings mechanisms (e.g., Savings Plans, Committed Use Discounts, Reserved Instances, Spot Instances).
- FinOps Foundation certification (FOCP or practitioner level) or equivalent demonstrated FinOps knowledge.
Nice to have
- Experience attributing shared infrastructure costs to specific customers or product features in multi-tenant systems.
