About the role

Role Overview

The Hartford is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to build and scale its AI platform. You will drive the roadmap and vision for AI platform capabilities that accelerate development and deployment of GenAI and traditional ML solutions, including productionization features such as scalability, security, and self-service.

Responsibilities

Serve as a key thought leader and collaborator in building the AI platform for GenAI and predictive/ML solutions.
Define and execute the AI platform vision and roadmap aligned to organizational goals and customer needs.
Stay current on AI trends and developments to shape the future state of the platform.
Lead the build and execution of POCs and prototypes to qualify and validate emerging platform solutions.
Provide hands-on engineering support for platform capabilities, including:
- agentic frameworks
- IaC (Infrastructure as Code)
- production-grade capabilities
- monitoring systems
- developer experience
- FinOps capabilities
Partner with shared services teams (e.g., Architecture, Cloud, Security) to design and implement platform solutions.
Collaborate with the Data Science team to develop a self-service internal developer AI platform.
Provide leadership and mentorship to engineers and foster innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a technical field.
10+ years of experience with cloud (AWS / GCP).
Extensive programming experience with Python and TypeScript.
Strong “bias for action” and willingness to challenge the status quo.
Significant hands-on experience in data, analytics, and MLOps/LLMOps engineering.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

Experience across broader stakeholder engagement and platform leadership as a thought partner.
Demonstrated versatility across a wide set of AI platform and engineering capabilities.
