About the role

Role Overview

The Principal Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) provides technical leadership to ensure the quality and reliability of components sourced from suppliers in metal casting and mold manufacturing. This fully remote role operates from Southern California (team based in Saco, ME) and focuses on supplier qualification, process validation, quality improvement, and risk management across the supply base.

  • Leads others to solve complex quality and supply issues
  • Works independently with guidance mainly for the most complex situations
  • May lead functional teams or projects

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, and report on supplier materials, goods, and packaging to ensure they meet/exceed requirements
  • Verify suppliers/subcontractors receive and understand engineering, manufacturing, and quality requirements
  • Monitor supplier/subcontractor quality control systems and activities
  • Drive programs to improve supplier performance and productivity
  • Review and analyze corrective action reports; perform root cause investigations when needed
  • Conduct audits and support product/material/process testing for effectiveness and compliance
  • Review and disposition supplier deliverables to ensure requirements are met

Additional Responsibilities

  • Qualify and audit casting/tooling suppliers
  • Verify foundry/mold shop compliance
  • Implement supplier process controls
  • Approve PPAP, FMEA, flows, and certifications
  • Lead RCA and corrective actions for defects
  • Drive continuous improvement and scrap reduction
  • Review metallurgy and dimensional data
  • Support DFM and casting feasibility
  • Monitor KPIs and manage changes/issues

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree and 8–10 years of relevant experience (or equivalent education/experience combination)
  • Strong technical background in supplier quality for casting/mold manufacturing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • ISO 9001 Lead or Internal Auditor
  • Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Manufacturing Engineering (preferred)
