Platform Engineering Manager

Own and operate the infrastructure/platform layer that enables secure, fast delivery. Lead and mentor a team of Platform Engineers, define delivery methodology, and partner with DevOps, AppSec, and engineering leadership to improve developer efficiency while meeting strict security and compliance requirements.

Key Missions

• Lead & mentor Platform Engineers: set direction, remove blockers, and enable engineers to own core platform infrastructure and tooling.
• Define platform delivery standards: create and govern standards for Infrastructure as Code, service onboarding, environment management, GitOps workflows, and platform releases.
• Shape architecture and integration: act as a stakeholder in architecture decisions to ensure the platform integrates effectively with product, engineering, and operations.

Profile / Requirements

• Thrives in high-stakes environments where reliability, automation, and security are essential.
• Can translate quarterly goals into tactical execution and drive continuous platform improvement to reduce friction for other engineering groups.
• Strong understanding of developer experience and Infrastructure as Code across cloud, hybrid, and air-gapped environments.
• Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally (Product, Engineering, Cybersecurity) and convert high-level requirements into actionable plans.
• Deep technical expertise in Kubernetes and AWS (or multi-cloud) plus Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
• Strong experience with hybrid and air-gapped constraints (compliance, connectivity, segmentation, secure operations).
• Strong communication skills across multiple time zones.
• Security clearance/certification capability: Top Secret with SCI eligibility and ability to obtain Security+ within 90 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves / Additional Requirements

• Experience setting/governing operational metrics, SLOs, incident response, and platform delivery measures.
• GitOps best practices.
• Python, Go, and/or TypeScript.
• Observability stack experience: Prometheus, Loki, Grafana, Alloy, Tempo (or similar).
• Experience in DoD/DoW, government, or other regulated environments.
• Certifications: CKA/CKAD, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, or AWS DevOps Engineer – Professional.
• Experience with Risk Management Framework (RMF) (e.g., STIGs, ICD 503).

Experience

• 5–8+ years in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering.
• 2+ years managing engineers, ideally infrastructure engineers.
